Domain name registrar since 1994 with global presence

We have global presence

Domain names, together with trademarks, lie at the core of Ports Group’s business. Since the start back in 1994, Ports Group has put great efforts in being able to supply registration and management of domain names in places few others can. We are our own ICANN-accredited registrar since 1999, (ICANN = Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). We can therefore register all top domains in the world without needing to engage another part. This is yet another advantage for our clients who know that the entire administration is placed under one roof.

We supply local proxy contacts where needed

With our local contacts in more than 40 countries, you can register domains in many countries that demand local presence, even if you don’t have that yourselves – as well as protect your trademark and introduce you on markets where it otherwise would have been impossible to register your domain. We also work continuously to enhance and simplify the possibilities for our clients to achieve global presence.

We take full legal responsibility for domain names in our management

Today there are more than 300 registered domain names and the number grows every day. New generic top level domains such as .SHOP, .CLOUD and .BERLIN, together with large companies’ registrations of own top domains such as .VOLVO,.NIKE and .BMW, make it even harder to navigate in the domain name jungle and, above all, monitor your own domain names.

Failing in controlling your domain names and not protecting your interests you create a situation where business critical consequences are common. For example, strategically important domain names can be registered by other parties in bad faith, or own domain names can expire resulting in catastrophic loss of access to email, website and other technical functions, worst case for a longer period.

Just as with trademarks, Ports Group acts proactively to consolidate and register all top domains – anywhere in the world – which we then administer with legal responsibility. All based on the policy you already have, or one that we help you develop.

In our management Corporate Domain Management we take legal responsibility for your domain names, just like for your trademarks. Thanks to our unique web based view with portfolio tools you can see status for your domain names in the same view as your trademarks and IT services. With all information in one view you have full control over your rights and assets for better decision basis, safer handling and easier administration.

We continuously watch your domain names

A domain portfolio is an active thing since the protection range (which names should be protected on which top domains) is in constant change for many companies. A domain portfolio is also exposed to constant threats in the form of cybersquatting, i.e. other companies or people making registrations that intrudes on your domain names. Since we work according to your policy, we can act fast on these changes with new registrations on new markets, and just as fast act against all kinds of threats to your trademark. Examples of actions we may take in regards to domain names that pose a threat to your brand are cease and desist letters and legal disputes.

We can offer clients who have a .com or .net domain Registry Lock. This is a preventive service that improves the security for your domains. Registry Lock protects your domain from transfer, change or removal by any unauthorised party. By adding Registry Lock to your business-critical domains, you raise the security another level for your digital assets.

With our Domain Monitor Service we have constant monitoring on if a domain or a keyword you want is expiring shortly. When the domain name or a domain name with your chosen keyword hasn’t been renewed and is likely to be released to the market soon, we contact you. You can then choose to put a backorder or wait until the domain name is free to register. Whichever choice you make, we increase your chances to succeed in obtaining the desired name (see also Domain Backorder Service below). The service is available for the following TLD’s (Top Domain Levels):
gTLD: .com, .net, .org, .mobi, .info, .biz, .asia, ccTLD: .us, .co.uk, org.uk, me.uk .eu, .de, .se, .ca.

With Domain Backorder Service we monitor a domain name and register it when it’s released to the market. To secure the domain name when it will be accessible, we use market leading services and a network of suppliers and registrars. If one of our partners succeeds in registering a domain name that has more than one applicant/interested party, it will be assigned through an auction procedure. The service is available for the following TLD’s (Top Domain Levels):
gTLD: .com, .net, .org, .mobi, .info, .biz, .asia, ccTLD: .us, .tv, .me, .co.uk, org.uk, me.uk, .eu, .de, .se, .ca.

Previously, there had been some 300 different top domains or TLDs (Top Level Domains), such as .com, .se, .no, .de. Now ICANN has opened up for own top domains, so called NGTLD (New Generic Top Level Domain) such as .SHOP, .BLOG and more, and even for company-specific top domains such as .VOLVO and .BMW. This opens up for more specific top domains, for instance if the .COM-address is occupied you can instead register “yourcompanyname.shop” for an international market. But it also brings new threats to monitor since others can register your company name with some new top domain.

We help you establish a policy for new top domains; such as which names you should protect and on which top domains, monitoring of those we choose to protect, and how to act on possible infringements. Since we are an accredited registrar for all domains, we can register all new ones.

To make life easier for trademark holders when launching any NGTLD and to help them protect their rights, ICANN has set up a Trademark Clearinghouse, where trademark holders can gather their registered trademarks. Trademark Clearinghouse will be used before launches of new top domains. The idea is that a trademark holder should only need to register their trademark in one place, to monitor the launch of all new top domains. Therefore it’s important to review your domain name and trademark strategies.

Are data correct concerning your domain names? A transfer of a domain name is made through written consent by current and future rights holders. If there are services connected to the domain name, they continue without interruption. Let us know which specifications you want on your domain name, and we will carry out necessary transfers of ownership and data. Remember that if you change name or organisational number, you need to update this on your domain name registrations.

Gathering all domain names at the same registrar simplifies management of them considerably. The process for changing registrar is different for different registrars, so leave this to us – we have close contact with all suppliers and can therefore make the transfer as smooth as possible.
